In the poker industry, we observed an incredible increase in active players recently. Poker business people have taken good advantage of the growing poker industry. Let’s see the ways people are being successful during this poker boom.

First, let’s see why poker has exploded. There were three key things that have caused the increase in action at the poker tables. Alright, listed in order, these are the events that led to the poker boom.

The first event was in 1994 when polish poker player, inventor, Henry Orenstein invented the equipment for the the pocket card camera. This allowed TV viewers to see the hole cards of all of the players while the hands are being played out. “Hole card cam’s” debut was in 1997 on The Late Night Poker Show, in England.

Poker had been on TV since the 70’s, but had a very small viewing audience. It wasn’t very interesting watching poker because not having the knowledge of what the players were holding, you were guessing what the players were betting with. This new innovation made poker on television very addictive.

The next event that moved us closer to the poker explosion was the beginning of the online poker rooms. The initial internet based poker room was opened in 1998. Players can now play a game of poker from the comfort of anywhere they want that they can get online. Online poker will display a steady increase in players as poker players became comfortable with this new poker format.

This sets the stage for the final piece to the puzzle. So, when Chris Moneymaker wins the WSOP World Championship of Poker in 2003, poker takes off. Getting his seat thru a $40 online poker room satellite, then winning, starts the avalanche of poker popularity.

The combination of the pocket camera improving the popularity of seeing poker on TV, and the expansion of online poker broadening the player base, positioned the poker industry for the explosion that occurred due to Moneymakers stunning win. With the world seeing an online, first time live tournament player, win the biggest tournament in poker, people flocked to the tables in huge numbers.

The explosion we see brings a vast amount of business opportunities for poker savvy business people. There are numerous ways to be successful in this growing poker industry. Most of these opportunities are web based businesses. Let’s name a few of the businesses you can run in this growing industry.

Those with the skill are turning into successful professional poker players. Entrepreneurs have gotten very wealthy being an affiliate for the online poker rooms. Books that teach poker strategy have become big sellers.

People are making software tools that help online players in gaining information from the information gathered from their past play. Some business people have invested in their own online poker rooms. We even see poker leagues happening at local bars all over the country.

These are some, but certainly not all, of the various opportunities that business people are using to cash in on the rapid expansion of poker. Being in a poker business that can be done online has to be the most promising. The future for poker still looks bright, and the opportunities are there for those ambitious enough to get involved.
