Night Stalking for Crappie: Catching More Crappie at Night

by Freddy Willie

Do you enjoy crappie fishing? These huge sunfish that reside in freshwater grow to about a foot in length, and 1-2 pounds in weight. Crappies exist in two varieties: black and white. If you enjoy eating lean fish, then the crappie is an ideal fish for you! It is particularly tasty when sauted or broiled. If you want to dine on crappies for breakfast, then consider crappie fishing at night. Here are some tips to make your fishing session successful:

Do You Have a Submersible Light or a Headlamp? When you are thinking about going night fishing, take a look at getting a headlamp or a submersible light. Look for one that can be placed above the fishing line above the bait that you are sending down. A good light can actually trick the fish into believing that it is day time and time to eat!

Look for Shallow Water With a Lot of Cover. Remember that unless you have a special spot in mind, you should look for something very specific. Take some time and look for an area that is near the bank or in the shallows at the dock. Look for places that are no deeper than twenty feet. A dock will let you hang up your light very effectively and it can also help you bring in the plankton, which in turn bring the minnows, which in turn will bring in the crappies that you are looking for. This is an impressively easy way to bring the crappies towards your area and you’ll find that it is very effective as well. Make sure that you don’t underestimate the importance of picking a good spot.

Use a quality fishing rod holder when fishing at nighttime.Because you want to catch fish rather than lose your fishing rod, it is vital that you select a quality holder. Here is another of the best crappie fishing tips: To help spot when a crappie has bit the bait, use white paint on the tip of your fishing rod. This will help to create a better contrast against a sea of darkness at nighttime, to detect when a crappie has taken the bait.

Bring Along an Electronic Depth Finder. Unless you know an area well, you don’t know what is deep and what is shallow. If you are going for a deep place to find your crappies, bring along an electronic depth finder. A good model will tell you a lot about where you are trying to fish.

Replicate Your Day’s Success. Remember that when you are using a headlamp or a submersible light, you are going to be able to stimulate fishing for crappies during the day. The techniques to catch crappies who think it is light include using a blend of dark and light jigs, and if you see a gang of bait fish under your light, don’t hesitate to use minnows as as pbait as well. Finally, remember that you can always drop fishing lines at various depths and allow the lines to float freely until you start getting the bites that you need.

When you love crappie fishing and you wouldn’t mind a delicious breakfast, take some time to consider how much fun night fishing for crappie might be!

Where To Find The Pike

by Jonny Edvardsen

Before you can catch a pike you have to understand a basic thing about the pike. To make this clear we can illustrate it with an example.

There are many similarities in the animal kingdom. When watching animal programs you can see these similarities, and the differences if pay attention. Wolves and lions are similar in many ways, but there is one thing that separates them in particular.

The wolf is an animal that chases its prey for a long time. It can chase it for days before finally catching up. This strategy is also used by a fish, the salmon. It hunts in much the same manner as the wolf with long chases and few surprises.

When we see a lion, on the other hand, we can see a totally different strategy used. It waits in high grass for its prey to come walking by. It then rushes out of its hiding place with extreme pace and catches the poor animal. This can be compared to the way that a Pike catches its prey. It finds a hiding spot, and waits for food to swim by just like the lion.

How can this information be used to catch more pike? Actually this can be the most important information we have about the pike. This enables us to fish at the right spots. Find spots that looks like good hiding spots for the pike, and you will probably catch one.

Another thing that we can tell is that we can often find the pike close to the bottom. This is usually where the best hiding spots are, and therefore the pike likes to be there.

So what should we use to catch a pike? the first thing that comes to mind is a sinking wobbler. A wobbler is a lure that is very similar to a real fish. Not only that. It is very much like an injured real fish. Therefore it looks like an easy target for the pike. Another popular bait is the live baits. These have often showed a very impressive catch.
