How To Prevent Aching Muscles

If you’ve been spending a lot of time at the gym it’s likely that you will experience aching muscles afterwards. This normal muscle soreness manifests itself as a dull but localized pain in the worked muscles that doesn’t limit range of motion but may be accompanied by tightness and temporary loss of strength.

When you overdo your training, the pain appears when the muscle fibers are being torn and then releases content. The content from the muscle cells then attracts inflammatory cells and chemicals that irritates the nerve fibers are being released.

It’s always best to not work out harder than your body can handle, but if the sore muscles are a fact, there are a few things that can make the pain go away faster.

If you give you muscles a good stretch after your workout, usually some of the tightness and stiffness in the muscles can be prevented. Stretching gets the circulation in your body going and this aids the recovery.

A massage is a great way of getting the circulation in that specific body part going and makes it easier to flush the inflammatory cells. Do it slowly, start softly and increase the pressure a little bit at a time.

A hot bath can also be helpful, as well as spending some time in a sauna. The warmth makes the circulation more efficient and makes the healing process faster.

It can also be beneficial to do some light exercise, like going for a walk or a swim. This prevents the muscles to go stiff and also makes the blood flow.

By listening to your body and by doing a proper warm up before you start lifting weights you can gain muscles without the bitter soreness afterwards. The warming up before working out is essential because it makes the blood flow and makes them loose and limb.

Let the sore muscles be your guidance and make the next session a lighter one. By working out to hard you don’t build your muscles quicker, instead you gain soreness and your muscles will get tired and in time the muscle growth process will actually slow down. So be gentle to your body and give it what it needs and the results can come.

One of the best ways to get a cardio workout is by using an elliptical training machine. There are many models available for home and commercial use. So what is the difference between the two?

The parts in a commercial elliptical are usually made of metal, and less overall plastic is used in the constructions of the elliptical trainer. This ensures less premature wear and a longer lasting piece of equipment.

Home elliptical machines can be purchased with a range of features from the most basic model to a commercial grade unit. If you take the reviews as evidence, apparently you get what you pay for.

Very few people truely need a commercial elliptical trainer in their home. Usually a traditional elliptical recommended for home use will be more than enough. If you have multiple family members consistently using the elliptical trainer you may want to consider a commercial elliptical as it will likely last significantly longer than the lower end machines.

The Nordic Track brand was the first one I remember seeing and it was marketed as a simulator of cross-country skiing. Perhaps this was the basis for the rest of the industry to add in the upper body workout portion.

In any event, commercial elliptical machines are basically built stronger and more durable to withstand prolonged, continuous use. One machine may be used 20 or 30 times a day in some gyms, maybe more. They are equipped with stronger motors, better drive systems, advanced cardiac monitoring systems, softer, more fluid stepping action and even laptop or personal stereo holders, if you want to work or listen to music as you exercise.
